Líšno Castle

The Líšno Castle is located in the Líšno part of the town of Bystřice in Okres Benešov ( Czech Republic ).

history

The castle was originally a Lešno castle belonging to the Beneschau family, built after 1367 by Benesch von Dauba and first mentioned in writing in 1378. The castle was well protected in a moorland, surrounded by walled moats. Although Wenzel von Dauba , Benesch's son, was one of Jan Hus's companions on his way to Constance , he did not join his followers. In 1420 the castle was besieged by the Hussites , but not conquered. In 1443 the castle passed to Jan Sádlo ze Smilkova . From the middle of the 15th century it belonged to the Sternberg , probably bought by Zdeniek Konopischt von Sternberg . In 1467 the fortress was besieged for two months by the armies of King George of Podebrady and finally captured. Under the reign of the king's son Hynek of Podebrady , it was converted into a late-Gothic castle in 1478 . In 1536 another extensive expansion followed in the late Renaissance style . The rule was repeatedly devastated during the Thirty Years' War . The castle, meanwhile uninhabited except for a few administration buildings, fell into disrepair. From 1873 to 1884 the ruins were bought and restored by the manufacturer Vincent Daněk . After the Second World War, there was a Red Cross school in the walls. Today the castle is uninhabited again and is in ruins.
