The city is located in the Sázava valley on both sides of the river. The state road 106 between Benešov and Kamenný Přívoz leads through Týnec , from which the 107 branches off to Říčany .

Neighboring towns are Zbořený Kostelec in the north, Brodce and Pecerady in the northeast, Bukovany in the east, Tejnice and Krusičany in the south, Chářovice in the south-west, Chleby and Podělusy in the west and Chrást nad Sázavou in the north-west.

history

In the 11th century a wooden Přemyslid castle was built on the left side of the Sázava , which served to protect the river crossing. The stone castle was built at the transition from the 12th to the 13th century. The first written reports about the castle date back to 1318; its owner was Oldřich z Týnce, one of the ancestors of the Medek von Waldeck family. In the 15th century, the Medek von Waldeck , the Klingstein and Velemlýnský families followed. In 1602 Dorota Hodějovská z Hodějova bought the Týnec and Konopiště estates , to which they also moved in 1607. Her son Adam Hodějovský lost the property that Albrecht von Waldstein received after the Battle of White Mountain in 1622 . During the Thirty Years' War the castle and town were burned down in 1627. The castle was repaired again, but when it burned down again in 1654 it was abandoned. In 1790 the village consisted of nine houses and had 54 inhabitants.

Franz Josef von Vrtba , who acquired the estate in 1785, set up an earthenware manufacture in the castle and the rotunda in 1791 under the guidance of Dutch and German specialists . This developed successfully and the Teinitz stoneware was valued for its good quality and design. In 1812 a new factory building in the Empire style was built for the earthenware factory. In the first half of the 19th century the property of the extinct family of Vrtba fell to Prince Johann Karl Lobkowitz . In 1842 Jacob Wahle from Prague set up a cotton mill in Brodetz. In 1848 180 people lived in the village.

In 1866 the previous sales markets collapsed due to the German War and the stoneware factory was closed. In 1878 František Janeček founded an arms factory, which in 1922 was given new premises in Prague. After Franz Ferdinand von Österreich-Este had acquired the Konopischter estates in 1887, he had the stoneware factory converted into a hotel. With the construction of the local railway from Prague to Čerčany , the place received a railway connection in 1897. In 1900 the population increased to 1240 and a settlement was established on the right bank of the Sázava. In 1922 Týnec nad Sázavou became an independent municipality.

In 1929 Janeček started producing JAWA motorcycles . In the same year he had the well-known Prague architects Karl Kohn and Otto Kohn build a villa dedicated to neo-baroque historicism . “The character of the wealthy manufacturer Janeček is reflected in the extroverted and open structure. The uneven terrain is unified by geometric gardens and narrow paths that frame the free-standing, round building and allow it to come into its own. The architects implemented the client's wish for maximum light flooding in the rooms through the circular layout of the building. "

In 1931 Janeček set up an aluminum foundry in Týnec and in 1937 expanded motorcycle production to the Brodetz factory. From 1942 the historical part of the place to the left of the Sasau was evacuated because of the construction of the SS military training area Bohemia . On May 9, 1945, French and Polish prisoners on a death train from the Flossenbürg and Theresienstadt concentration camps were liberated. In 1950 the industrial community now had 2500 inhabitants. In 1964, the new JAWA plant was inaugurated. Týnec nad Sázavou has been a town since January 1st, 1969.
