Vrtba (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lords, counts from 1624, von Vrtba (also Wrtba or Wrtby, Czech Vrtbové , z Vrtby , z Vrtbů ) were an old Bohemian noble family, which was first mentioned in the 14th century. They came from the Hroznatowci clan, the descendants of Count Hroznata von Ovenec (* around 1160; † 1217 in the fortress Kinsberg near Eger), founders of the Chotieschau monastery near Pilsen ( Plzeň ) and the Teplá monastery near Eger ( Cheb ) in western Bohemia .

history

The Vrtba owned, among other things, the eponymous castle Vtrba near Upper Biela (Horni Biela) in Central Bohemia and with a more or less long duration Krašovice (Krusovice), Nekmíř near Pilsen, Klenovice (Klenova Castle), Jindřichovice (Heinrichsgrün), Hodětice , Třebomyslice (Trebomislice) ) Rothradek (Czerweny Hradek - Borek, Roth house) in western Erzgebirge, Žinkovy (Zinkau) Švamberk (swan hill), Gutštejn (castle Guttenstein) Konopiště (Konopischt) Votice (Votice) Mrač at Beneschau, Kosova Hora (Amschelberg ), Křimice (Krzimicz, Krimitsch), Všemyslice near Budweis, Míkovice near Kralup on the Vltava, Voračice and Nusle , a district of Prague.

The rise of the Vrtba began in the 16th century and accelerated after the victory of the Roman Catholic Habsburgs in the Battle of White Mountain on November 8, 1620 over the Protestant-Lutheran, insurgent estates. As a loyal supporter of the Habsburgs, Sezima von Vrtba (1578–1648) was raised to the bohemian count on December 20, 1624. In the years that followed, the Vrtba increased their wealth primarily through inexpensive purchases of confiscated land and real estate. Sezima von Vrtba had the Vrtba Palace built in Prague between 1627 and 1631 .

The male line of the family died out in the first half of the 19th century, one branch in 1807 with Count Franz Adam von Wrtby auf Wotitz ( Votice ), whose heir was Franz Count Wratislaw von Mitrowitz , the other in 1830 with Count Franz Joseph from Wrtby to Konopischt ( Konopiste ), whose inheritance fell to Prince Johann Karl von Lobkowicz .

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows three (2.1) red deer antlers in silver or from 1624 in gold. On a crowned helmet with red-silver or red-gold covers a red deer antler with grind. Due to the tinging of the rods, the descendants of the Vrtby differ: the Bilsky von Biela with blue in gold, the Krasykov with black-gray in silver, and the Count Hroznata von Guttenstein with black in gold. In memory of Count Hroznata von Ovenec, the town of Teplá and the Teplá monastery have three deer antlers in their coat of arms, as does the town of Chotěšov near Pilsen with the former Chotěšov monastery .
