Neveklov ( German Neweklau , also Neveklau ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located eleven kilometers southeast of Benešov and belongs to the Okres Benešov .

geography

The town is located on the Skalka hill (422 m) between the valleys of the Tloskovský potok and Neveklovský potok in the Beneschau hill country . To the northeast rises the 536 m high Neštětická hora, on the top of which a lookout tower was built. The Slapy drinking water reservoir is located west of the municipality in the Vltava Valley . Neveklov is the intersection of the state road 114 between Benešov and Dobříš with the 105 from Sedlčany to Jílové u Prahy .

Neighboring towns are Tloskov, Borovka and Ouštice in the north, Lipka and Chvojínek in the northeast, Dubovka, Neštětice and Zaječí in the east, Zderadice in the southeast, Řehovice in the south, Zádolí and Vlkonice in the southwest and Stranný in the west.

history

The first written record of Neveklov comes from the year 1285, when Heinrich I von Rosenberg sold the place to the Zderaz monastery . Later, the place came as pledge to secular lords, from whom Vladyk of Neveklov held it until the middle of the 16th century. From 1550 Neveklov belonged to the Tloskov dominion.

In 1563 Neveklov was raised to the market by Ferdinand I. The place received a coat of arms and the right to hold a fair; its residents were granted relief from labor. Because of his participation in the class uprising in 1618 , the property of Smil z Hodějova was confiscated and sold in 1622 to the Catholic Paul Michna von Vacínov , who pushed through the recatholicization in Neveklov.

In 1630 the Jewish community founded a burial fraternity and in 1689 the Jewish cemetery was built south of the village and was used until 1939.

In 1752 a major fire destroyed 50 houses and in 1772 133 people died of the plague. In 1790 and 1814 devastating fires broke out again.

After the replacement of patrimonial Neveklov became an independent market town in 1848. Neveklov was the seat of a district court ( judicial district Neweklau ). In 1872, Vincenc Daněk, co-founder of the Breitfeld & Daněk machine factory, acquired the Tloskov Castle. In 1885 the new town hall was built, which was built together with a hotel.

During the German occupation, Neweklau including 71 villages in the area was evacuated from September 1, 1942 and the Beneschau military training area of the Waffen-SS , which was named SS-Böhmen training area from 1943 , was established. Until then, a large number of Jewish residents lived in the village, who were transported to work in agriculture and who eventually fell victim to the Shoah . After the end of the Second World War, the residents of Neveklov returned and began to rebuild the place devastated by the military exercises, by first removing the dangers of lying around mines and grenades.

In 1946 the Tloskov Castle was transferred to the Association of Inventors and from 1954 to a production cooperative for toys. In 1958 the castle became the property of the Czechoslovak army and since November 1st, 1959 it has been used as a youth welfare institution.

On October 10, 2006, Neveklov was elevated to a city.
