The former market square is now on the bank of the reservoir in the area of the Horní Paseka municipality .
geography
Zahrádka was on the right side of the Želivka. On the left bank of the river are the remains of the Zahrádka Castle. To the west lies Snět , northeast Kamenná Lhota , east Horní Paseka , southeast Hojanovice and southwest Ježov .
history
The first mention of Zahrádka is a forgery of the Vyšehrad collegiate chapter from the 13th century, according to which Ottokar I. Přemysl supposedly donated the place to the chapter in 1219. It can be documented for the first time in a confirmation document from Pope Innocent IV from 1245 on membership of the Vyšehrad chapter, in which the existence of the Church of St. Vitus is also documented. On the left side of the river, above the confluence of the Blažejovický potok, the Klosterberg Castle was built, which was the seat of provost Heinrich von Linenstein from 1348 and of Siegmund Albich from 1420 .
After the Vyšehrad was destroyed in the Hussite Wars , in 1436 Nikolaus Trčka of Lípa was given the entire district on both sides of the Želivka, which once belonged to Queen Swatawa and which reached as far as the Melechov and was covered with dense forests. Zahrádka was also in this area. Ferdinand I granted Zahrádka town and market rights in 1562. In addition to holding a fair, the privileges also included having your own coat of arms. The place was named "Trhová Zahrádka" ( Sachradka Market ). After Adam Erdmann Trčka von Lípa was murdered together with Albrecht von Waldstein on the night of the murder in Eger in 1634 , his property was confiscated two years later. The new owner of Trhová Zahrádka was Wolf Adam zu Pappenheim , who sold his property to Burian Ladislaus von Waldstein in 1638 . In 1669 the abbot of the Breunau monastery , Matthäus Ferdinand Sobek von Bilenberg , acquired the Sachradka market. In 1686 the first school in Sachradka started teaching. Othmar Daniel Zinke sold Sachradka in 1707 to the imperial chamberlain Johann Leopold Donatus von Trautson and Falkenstein. This struck Sachradka his rule Unterkralowitz and transferred the management of the Martinowitz estate . In 1766, Karl Josef von Palm-Gundelfingen acquired his goods. After the property of the Lords of Palm-Gundelfingen was foreclosed in 1801 due to excessive indebtedness, Sachradka was merged with the Lordship of Unterkralowitz.
After the abolition of patrimonial in 1848, Zahrádka became an independent market town and in 1850 came to the newly formed district of Ledeč nad Sázavou . On February 21, 1850, a fire destroyed almost the entire area. The construction of the local railway Beneschau – Wlaschim – Unter Kralowitz was not continued up to the spot. Many residents who lived from handicrafts and trades looked for a new livelihood in the metropolises of Prague and Vienna , while others emigrated to America. The construction of the new road from Želiv to Trhová Zahrádka brought the town out of its seclusion. Further new roads were built in 1858 to Ledeč nad Sázavou, in 1862 to Dolní Kralovice and finally in 1879 to Humpolec . In 1920 the name of the municipality was changed to Zahrádka . At that time, the districts Dolní Paseka, Horní Paseka and Staré Hamry belonged to the municipality.
After the Second World War, Zahrádka's rights were not renewed and the market town sank into the village. In 1963 the Czechoslovak government decided to build a dam on the Želivka . On August 27, 1969, the liquidation of Zahrádka was decided. In 1971, Horní Paseka was spun off with the Studénky and Hory single shifts to Rejčkov. In 1974, work on the Švihov dam was so far completed that the valley was flooded. First Dolní Kralovice was devastated and rebuilt in a new place. In 1976 Zahrádka and Staré Hamry were flooded.
From the former market square in Zahrádka, only the church of St. Vitus and the statue of the Virgin Mary remained, which are now on the right bank of the reservoir.
