Glenn Whitmore
Glenn Whitmore (* 1966 in Morris County , New Jersey ) is an American comic artist and colorist.
Life and work
After high school, Whitmore trained as a professional draftsman at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. He then began working as a full-time draftsman and colorist for American comic publishers in 1987. After a brief engagement with Marvel Comics in 1987, Whitmore switched to Marvel's competitor DC-Comics in 1988 , for whom he - on the mediation of Bob Rozakis - initially colored the illustrations by the illustrator Rob Liefeld for a four-part mini-series of the series about the dissimilar siblings Hawk and Dove .
In the same year Whitmore was initially hired "provisionally" as a colorist for the series about the traditional comic hero Superman - the flagship titles in the DC publishing program - for which he would ultimately work for more than a decade. Between 1988 and 1999 Whitmore colored hundreds of magazines for the series Superman , Superman: Man of Steel , Adventures of Superman , Superman: Man of Tomorrow and Action Comics . The long list of Superman artists whose work he colored includes Jerry Ordway , George Pérez , Dan Jurgens , Tom Grummett , Paul Ryan (comic book artist) , Dennis Janke , Denis Rodier , Kieron Dwyer , Kerry Gammill , Bob McLeod , Jon Bogdanove , Stuart Immonen , Doug Hazlewood , Ron Frenz , Jackson Guice , Brett Breeding and Karl Kesel . His collaboration on the extremely successful 1933 Superman storyline, The Death of Superman , which was sold in millions and which deals with the death and resurrection of the iconic hero, earned Whitmore a small fortune, which among other things enabled him to earn himself to buy own house. In appreciation of Whitmore's general contribution to the Superman myth, talk show master Whitty Banter was also introduced to the Superman comics, a secondary character that was modeled on him.
Other series that Whitmore colored for DC in the 1990s were Flash and Power of Shazam , the latter along with his most frequent artistic partner and personal friend Jerry Ordway. There was also the One Shot Batman: The Hollywood Years and a miniseries about the Justice Society (1992).
In the more recent past Whitmore, who mostly uses the coloring / color separation programs Digital Chameleon and Wildstorm FX to carry out his work, has mainly worked for Steve Rude's studio Rudedudeproductions. Together with Rude, he designed the series The Moth, which was distributed by Dark Horse in 2004 .
