Jerry Ordway (born November 28, 1957 ) is an American comic book author and illustrator.

Life and work

Ordway began working as an ink draftsman for the US publisher DC Comics in the early 1980s . There he initially participated in the design of series such as All-Star Squadron and Infinity Inc. In 1986, Ordway was engaged to rework George Pérez 's pencil drawings for the extremely successful maxi series Crisis on Infinite Earths .

In the late 1980s, Ordway was assigned to the author Marv Wolfman as a draftsman for the series Adventures of Superman. After Wolfman's departure as the author of Adventures of Superman in 1989, Ordway took over both the writing and drawing duties for the series Superman, alongside Adventures of Superman and Action Comics at that time the main series about the famous superhero from the planet Krypton . After working as a writer and illustrator for the Superman series for almost two years from 1989 to 1991, Ordway switched back to Adventures of Superman, while the previous author and illustrator of Adventures, Dan Jurgens , took over the Superman series. After Ordway had written the Adventures of Superman again for almost two years, he left the series in 1993 with the anniversary number # 500 in order to devote himself to other projects. His successors were Karl Kesel as author and Tom Grummett as draftsman. Ordway's most frequent artistic partner on Superman was the colorist Glenn Whitmore , who would also second him in his subsequent project The Power of Shazam .

From 1995 Ordway took over authorship and drawings for the series The Power of Shazam about the magical superhero Captain Marvel . Ordway stayed with the series for forty-seven issues and exactly four years until 1999.

In 1999 Ordway worked briefly on some Marvel series such as Hulk and The Avengers . In 2000 the miniseries Domination Factor: Avengers and Domination Factor: Fantastic Four followed .

In 2001 he supported comic veteran Stan Lee with his project Just Imagine and drew the edition Just Imagine Stan Lee with Jerry Ordway Creating the JLA

Since then Ordway has been involved primarily as a fill-in artist, including for Superman: The Man of Steel 1,000,000, Joker: Last Laugh Secret File # 1 and Wonder Woman # 189–194 (2003).
