Life and work

Dwyer began working as a full-time comic artist through the mediation of his stepfather John Byrne in the mid-1980s . Since then, he has worked for the two major US comic publishers, DC Comics and Marvel Comics , and most recently in the Portland studio association Periscope Studio.

Dwyer's work includes activities as a regular draftsman for the series Captain America (1987–1990), Danger Unlimited (1994), Action Comics (1995–1996) and Avengers (2001–2003).

In 2000, Dwyer hit the headlines when he was sued by Starbucks Coffee for distributing the company's world-famous logo - the sketched facial portrait of a siren - in parodic variations in various comics and as a motif on T-shirts and the like.
