Okres Rakovník (German district Rakonitz ) is located in the Central Bohemian Region in the slightly hilly western part with many forests and rivers. The highest mountain is the Vlastec (612 m above sea level) in the north, in the middle there is a plateau, in the west, south and east there are plains.
55,565 inhabitants live on 896 km² (as of January 1, 2019), 40% of them in the three towns of Rakovník , Jesenice u Rakovníka and Nové Strašecí . 50% of the population is gainfully employed, 28% of them in industry and just under eight percent in agriculture and forestry. The average wage is 15,757 kroner and unemployment is 8%.
Rakovnicko is known for its ceramic and chemical industry. The largest employers are RAKO and VALEO AUTOKLIMATIZACE . Hops are grown in the north and center of the district, potatoes and grain in the south.
Attractions
- Křivoklát Castle was built in 1270.
- In 1414 Jan Hus set out from Krakovec Castle on his way to Constance .
- In Rakovník you can find the Gothic church of St. Bartholomew (1504) with a sandstone pulpit by Matěj Rejsek , the remains of the city wall, the cemetery chapel of St. Roch, the church of St. Egidius and others.
- Lány Castle has been the summer residence of the Czech presidents since 1921.
There are also numerous nature parks such as the Pürglitzer Forest ( Křivoklátsko ), as well as many forests with rare plants and geologically interesting formations.
The municipality Lány was assigned to the Okres Kladno on January 1, 2007 .
