The landscape protection park Křivoklátsko (German Pürglitzer Wald ) was proclaimed in 1978. It occupies an area of ​​628 km². The landscape protection park is protected along the hilly landscape of the Berounka River and its tributaries.

This also includes various oak forests, forest steppes, steppe and rock formations. This region is also valuable from the point of view of geology and geomorphology . The highest point is the Těchovín hill (612 m).

As a scientifically significant area, Křivoklátsko has been included in the international network of UNESCO biosphere reserves .

Efforts to declare the area a national park are rated differently. While conservationists support the project, the residents of the region fear further restrictions in various areas such as B. in construction.
