Branov (German Branow , 1939–45 Branau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located 18 kilometers northwest of Beroun and belongs to the Okres Rakovník .
geography
Branov is located on a bend in the river on the right side above the Berounka valley on a hill in the Křivoklátská vrchovina. The village is located in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area . The Porostlina (454 m) and the Amerika (413 m) rise to the north, the Beraník (498 m) to the east, the Mokřinka (466 m) and the Výrův kopec (481 m) to the southeast, and the Vysoký Tok (546 m) to the south ) and the Štulec (539 m) as well as the Dlouhá hora (399 m) to the west.
Neighboring towns are Velká Buková in the north, Křivoklát , Višňová and Roztoky in the Northeast, Údolí hříchů the east, Leontýn, Pustá Seč, Branovská Vrata, Nový Jáchymov , Stará Ohrada and Karlov in the southeast, Karlova Ves and Emilovna in the south, Jelenec, Týřovice, Kouřimecká Rybárna and Kouřimecká Myslivna in the southwest, U Rozvědčika, V Luhu and Nezabudice in the west and Malá Buková and Na Čihátku in the northwest.
history
The first written mention of Branov was in 1551.
In 1843 Branow consisted of 42 houses with 354 inhabitants. The fisherman's house U Luhu was on the side of the ferry over the Mies . The parish was in Nezabuditz . Branow remained subject to Fideikommiss Pürglitz until the middle of the 19th century .
After the abolition of patrimonial formed Branov / Branow 1850 a municipality in the district Rakonitz and judicial district Křivoklát . In 1932 there were 523 people living in Branov.

- Ota Pavel (1930–1973), the writer spent his childhood in the ferry house V Luhu and described the area in several stories.
