Okres Kladno ( German  district Kladen ) is a district in Středočeský kraj in the Czech Republic . The area is part of the Bohemian Massif and is slightly hilly. The highest point is Vysoký vrch near Malé Kyšice (486 m above sea level). The district is known as a coal deposit .

With 720 km² it is one of the smaller districts in the district. 152,000 people live in 100 communities with 92 districts. 67% of the region's population live in the eight cities of Kladno , Libušín , Slaný , Stochov , Unhošť , Velvary , Smečná and Buštěhrad . The average age of 39.8 years is the national average.

In the past, economic power was determined by coal mining and steel production, but their importance declined sharply in the 1990s. In the meantime, electrical engineering companies, machine and food industries have settled here. The most important employers in Kladno Celestica, Strojírny POLDI as well as Energie - stavební a báňská, as and in Slaný FX MEILLER. In agriculture, sugar beet and grain are grown and cattle is raised.

52.6% of the population are employed, 23% of them in industry (after 50% in 1980). The number of people employed in the construction and tertiary sectors is increasing. The average gross wage is 17,160 crowns and is slightly above the national average. Unemployment is 9.9%. This would be higher if part of the population could not work in Prague .

The environment is relatively heavily polluted by coal mining and intensive agriculture. The environmental conditions have improved due to the closure of the mining industry and the closure of the steelworks.

On January 1, 2007, the municipality of Lány was transferred from the Okres Rakovník to the Okres Kladno and the municipality of Olovnice changes to the Okres Mělník .
