The Český Šternberk Castle is located in Český Šternberk on a mighty ledge in the valley of the Sázava River , about 40 kilometers southeast of Prague .
history
The castle was built in 1241 by Zdeslav von Divišov, who called himself Zdeslav von Sternberg from the time the castle was completed and moved into . The castle has been owned by the Counts of Sternberg since 1241 with two interruptions (1712 to 1841 and 1949 to 1991) . The current owner of the castle is Zdeněk (Zdenko) Sternberg, who lives in the castle with his family.
Český Šternberk was built in the early Gothic style. Český Šternberk was one of the first castles in Bohemia to be built in solid stone. In 1467 the castle was conquered and destroyed by the troops of Georg von Podebrady , King of Bohemia. The castle was rebuilt in the late Gothic style. The last major renovation, the Baroque style of some of the interior, took place in the 17th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, technical facilities (water pipes, bathrooms, central heating, electrification) were built into the castle.
The castle can be visited.
