The military training area Brdy (Czech VVP Jince , also Vojenský újezd Brdy ) was a military training area in the Czech Republic , which was closed on December 31, 2015. Administratively it was a special area directly belonging to the Czech state with 27 inhabitants (January 1, 2015) . It was located in the Okres Příbram between the towns of Příbram , Hořovice and Rokycany in the Brdy Forest and had an area of 260.18 km². Jince was the seat of the military training area .

history

The military training area was set up as an artillery firing range in 1930. From 1935, the first prototypes of the heavy bunker systems were erected here for the construction of the Czechoslovak Wall and their effectiveness was tested. After the German occupation of Czechoslovakia , the Wehrmacht took over the facilities as the Kammwald military training area .

During the communist rule, the square was expanded from 1948, the places America, Hrachoviště ( Hrachowischt ), Kolvín ( Kolwin ), Padrť ( Padert ), Skořice ( Skorschitz ), Štítov ( Stittow ), Teslíny, Velci, Vísky and Záběhlá ( Sabechlau ) were resettled. Between 1968 and 1969, Soviet armed forces and troops from other Warsaw Pact countries (see Prague Spring ) were stationed under primitive conditions at the military training area.

On the grounds of the military training area is the hunting lodge Tři trubky (German "Drei Röhren") built after 1880 by Hieronymus Graf Colloredo-Mansfeld . It has served as a domicile since the terrain was used for military purposes (including Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk , Edvard Beneš and Walther von Brauchitsch 1942–1945 after his active time as General Field Marshal ) and is still reserved for special guests today.

Parts of the site have been open to the public on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays since the 1990s.

From the beginning of 2007 to September 2009 the training area moved into the focus of the Czech public. The reason was the plan of the US Army to build a radar system for its national missile defense system in the Czech Republic and to station American soldiers in this context. The Czech army command named Brdy as the most suitable location. In September 2009, US President Barack Obama announced that there would be no radar station in the Czech Republic.

There were 35 people living in the area at the end of 2007, compared to 27 at the beginning of 2015.
