František Ševčík

František Ševčík (2011)

František "Ježek" Ševčík (born January 11, 1942 in Vilémovice , Reich Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ; † July 22, 2017 in Brno ) was a Czechoslovak ice hockey player . For many years he played for Zenit Brno and the Czechoslovak national team on the right wing .

Career

František Ševčík played between 1961 and 1973 in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak ice hockey league , for Zenit Brno. With the club he was Czechoslovakian champion for five years in a row between 1962 and 1966 and scored 172 goals and 108 assists in 485 games this season . From 1973 he played in the second class 1. ČNHL , the Czech National League, for Baník Karviná and from 1975 for the TJ Železárny Prostějov . Between 1978 and 1982 he played at the amateur level with Metru Blansko and in his hometown with Sokol Vilémovice .

Ševčík had great success in international championships. With the Czechoslovak men's selection , he won one medal at the Winter Olympics and five medals at world championships . His first appointment to the national team was for the ice hockey world championship in 1965 , where the ČSSR team won the silver medal. From then on, Ševčík took part in the world championships annually. Three years later he was appointed to the squad for the 1968 Winter Olympics and won the silver medal, which was also classified as the runner-up world title. In the national shirt, Ševčík scored 26 goals in 95 international matches for Czechoslovakia.
