Carl Mallette (* 17th November 1981 in Victoriaville , Quebec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who since 2007 with the Dragons de Rouen in France's Ligue Magnus on the position of the center plays.
Career
Mallette played in his junior years from 1997 to 2002 with the Victoriaville Tigres in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League . This had selected him in the QMJHL Entry Draft 1997 in the first round in seventh place. The striker played 371 games for the Tigres in five years and scored 483 points . In his last season, Mallette led the team as team captain to win the Coupe du Président and was then represented with Victoriaville in the Memorial Cup . During his time in the QMJHL he was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in 107th place by the Atlanta Thrashers from the National Hockey League . Before Mallette switched to the professional field, he played the 2002/03 season at Dalhousie University in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport .
The center spent its first season as a professional in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades and Roanoke Express , before playing for the Greenville Grrrowl and Toledo Storm in the ECHL and the Hershey Bears and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in the American Hockey League the following season. His 80 scorer points in 64 ECHL games were rewarded with the election to the league's First All-Star team.
Since Mallette did not see his future in the Minor Leagues of North America, he moved to the French Ligue Magnus to the Dragons de Rouen in the summer of 2005 . With his French-Canadian background, he did not burden the foreign contingent there either. In the very first season in France, the attacker won the French championship with the Dragons . Mallette himself ended the season as top scorer and top scorer, for which he received the Charles Ramsey Trophy . He was also elected to the Ligue Magnus All-Star Team. Nevertheless, Mallette left the club after only one year and joined HC Innsbruck from the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . Such successes as in Rouen failed to materialize. So after just one year he returned to the Dragons, whose team captain he has been since 2009. Since his return he has won three more championship titles with Rouen, twice the Coupe de la Ligue and once each the Coupe de France , Trophée des Champions and the IIHF Continental Cup . He personally received the Charles Ramsey Trophy one more time, was the best league scorer twice and was appointed to the league's all-star team three times.
