The HC Tiroler Wasserkraft Innsbruck - The sharks is an Austrian ice hockey team from Innsbruck ( Tyrol ), since the 2012/13 season after three years in the second division again in the Erste Bank Hockey League is active.

history

The club was re-founded in 1994 as HC Innsbruck and renamed after the major sponsor " Tiroler Wasserkraft " in 1999 . Since the 2000/01 season , the club played again in the highest Austrian league and was thus the first Innsbruck first division team since the departure of the forerunner Innsbrucker EV , which completed its last Bundesliga season 1992/93 .

Over the years, the team reached the semi-finals several times, but never made it to the finals. In the last few seasons in particular, the majority of the squad was often changed, but this mainly had an impact on the budget. In addition, the team struggled with a weak phase at the end of the basic season, which was repeated year after year and regularly culminated in the playoffs. On March 3, 2009 it was announced that HC Innsbruck wanted to leave the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League and relegate to the National League for financial reasons.

The first season in the new league was completed with a squad that consisted primarily of young Tyrolean players, and was successful. The club won the regular round with a seven point lead over the runner-up EC Dornbirn . In the final he was defeated by Vorarlberg with 1: 3 victories and had to be content with the title of runner-up. Two years later, the club managed to win the second division championship for the first time. A short time later it was announced that the Innsbruckers would return to the top division.

The 'Haie' have been back in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since the 2012/13 season , but have not been able to qualify for the playoffs since then. The Haie achieved their best result in the 2015/16 season with eleventh place in the main round and third place in the qualifying round.
