The Austrian Ice Hockey League 1998/99 was played with four clubs after the last edition of the Alpine League . The championship was for the fourth time in its club history the EC VSV , which prevailed in the final against the local rival EC KAC .

Attendees

As in the previous year, the Austrian championship was only played between those clubs that had previously participated in the Alpine League. These included the EC VSV , the EC KAC , the Wiener EV and the VEU Feldkirch . The KSV ice hockey club from Kapfenberg, which had been relegated to the national league, was no longer there . After the bankruptcy of last year's participant EC Graz , a Graz club should have continued to participate in the Alpine and Bundesliga with the newly founded EHC Graz. However, this went bankrupt in December (during the Alpine League), which ultimately left only four teams.

mode

The 1998/99 season began after the Alpine League was held on January 21, 1999 and ended with the final game on April 1. The four clubs played against each other four times in the regular season. In the event of a tie, a 5-minute extension ( Sudden Victory Overtime ) was played with four field players each. If this ended goalless, a penalty shoot-out was decided. The winner thus determined received two points, the loser one.

A play-off was then played, with all matches being played in the best of seven mode.

In addition, bonus points were awarded based on the result of the basic round of the Alpine League. The EC VSV as the best Austrian club received four bonus points, the EC KAC as the second best club three, the Wiener EV two and the VEU Feldkirch one bonus point.
