Champion of the Austrian Ice Hockey League 1985/86 was the 22nd time in the club's history of the EC KAC , which was able to successfully defend its title from the previous year.

mode

The six clubs played against each other six times in the regular season. All clubs qualified for the final round consisting of two rounds, whereby the first four clubs received 4, 3, 2 or 1 bonus points. Then in the semifinals the 1st met the 4th and the 2nd met the 3rd, the encounters were each played in the "best-of-three" mode.
