The 2020/21 season of the ICE Hockey League , the Austrian ice hockey league with international participation, is scheduled to begin on September 25, 2020. The league's new title sponsor is bet-at-home.com . Since the pre-season was canceled in the quarter-finals due to the coronavirus pandemic , there is no defending champion.
In advance
In October 2019, Erste Bank announced that it would no longer extend the sponsorship contract with the league at the end of the 2019/20 season. Starting in the 2003/04 season, the bank had been the league's main sponsor and namesake for seventeen years. At the same time, the previous free TV partner Servus TV announced its exit after ten years. In April 2020, the league signed a three-year contract with bet-at-home as the new title sponsor. Puls 24 is the new free TV partner . The station shows one game a week. As in previous years, further games will be shown on the pay-TV channel Sky Austria . The new name ICE Hockey League and the new logo were presented to the public on July 4th, 2020.
Participating teams
After eleven clubs had recently participated in the league, the Slovakian club Bratislava Capitals applied to participate in the league. The team, founded in 2015, was most recently active in the second-highest Slovak division and had won the main round of the league. At the end of April, the eleven previous clubs agreed to Bratislava’s participation. In contrast, the only Czech club, HC Orli Znojmo , withdrew from the league "at least for one season" for economic reasons as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
