history
The club was founded in 2015 under the name Hokejový klub Bratislava . Bratislava was no longer represented in the higher Slovak game operations after HC Slovan Bratislava switched to the Russia-based KHL in 2012 . HK Bratislava started in the third class 2nd division . The club, now called Hockey Club Bratislava , has been playing in the 3500-seat Vladimír Dzurilla Arena in the Ružinov district since 2016 . In 2017 one rose as a successor to the second highest level called the first division. After a local medium-sized sponsor, the company was now called HC OSMOS Bratislava .
After HC Slovan returned to the Slovak Extraliga in 2019, HC Bratislava repositioned itself. On the one hand, the new name Bratislava Capitals was adopted , and on the other hand, they switched to the Slovnaft Aréna, which can hold 10,000 spectators . In addition, the budget was increased to € 500,000 and major investments were made in the team, including the engagement of former NHL player Eric Selleck .
At the beginning of 2020, the club announced that it was negotiating with the Austrian Ice Hockey League (EBEL) about entry into the league. The Slovak association has given approval for this. At the end of April, the previous clubs approved the admission of the Capitals to the league.
