Ryan Martinelli (born September 2, 1986 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player on the position of defender who has been playing for the Bratislava Capitals since the 2019/20 season .

Career

The defender started his career with the St. Thomas Stars , until 2004 he played for the club from St. Thomas in the Western Ontario Hockey League (WOHL). In the 2004/05 season Martinelli also played for the London Knights , he won the Memorial Cup and was champion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Between 2005 and 2007, the Canadian made 163 games, especially with the Knights because of his penalty times (285 minutes).

In 2007, the great defense attorney began studying psychology and criminology at the University of Western Ontario , playing for the Western Ontario Mustangs. During his time in the USports Ice Hockey League, he was elected to the Second All Star Team in 2009 and 2010.

After studying in Canada, Martinelli moved to Italy and ventured into Europe. There he played for two seasons for HC Valpellice , where he again attracted attention with a high number of penalty times, in the 2011/12 season he was the player with the most penalty minutes (100 minutes). For the 2012/13 season, the Canadian moved to Trondheim, which he led on the ice as assistant captain, but that season he went to Bremerhaven to join the Fischtown Pinguins in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . In the following season, the Canadian with Bremerhaven became the first master of the DEL2 , through this championship he qualified with the team for the IIHF Continental Cup , where they had to settle for second place in the 2014 final.

In the 2015/16 season Martinelli landed in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL) at Fehérvár AV19 , where he moved to the Belfast Giants after just one season in the EIHL . In 2018 he became champion with Belfast and moved to league rivals Sheffield Steelers .

Martinelli has been playing with the Bratislava Capitals since the 2019/20 season .
