University Cup

The University Cup

The University Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the men's CIS ice hockey championship. The cup was first played in the 1962/63 season when Queen's University and the Royal Military College of Canada met. These two universities from Kingston had already faced each other in the very first game between two Canadian universities in 1885. The University Cup is intended to commemorate the great contribution that university players have made to the development of ice hockey.

A total of 27 different teams have made it to the final of the University Cup so far, 15 of which have won the trophy so far. The record champions are the Alberta Golden Bears , who won 13 of their 18 cup appearances, followed by the Toronto Varsity Blues with 10 titles. The Aigles Bleues de Moncton and the UQTR Patriotes each won the University Cup four times. The Toronto Varsity Blues also hold the record for most consecutive titles with five wins between 1969 and 1973.
