The Scotiabank Center is a multi-purpose hall in the Canadian city ​​of Halifax , Nova Scotia Province . Today it is the home ground of the Halifax Mooseheads from the LHJMQ ice hockey junior league and the Halifax Rainmen from the ABA basketball league .

history

The hall was opened in 1978. In the 1990s, the largest hall in the city, which is located near the World Trade and Convention Center at the foot of Citadel Hill , was renovated several times, most recently before the 2002/03 season when a new display system for the U20 ice hockey world championships installed. In addition to the sporting events, which include basketball and ice hockey as well as professional wrestling , the arena is primarily used for concerts, exhibitions and trade fairs. The current capacity for ice hockey games is 10,595, while basketball games can accommodate around 11,000 spectators in the Halifax Metro Center.

Over the years, the arena has also been used by various NHL and NBA teams for preparation games, including the first game in the franchise history of the Toronto Raptors , and by the Canadian national basketball and ice hockey teams for various international matches.

The Halifax Metro Center, along with the Colisée Pepsi, was one of the two venues for the 2008 Ice Hockey World Championship .

In June 2014 the name of the arena changed. The Scotiabank has been title sponsor and the city pays 650,000 annually CAD . The contract runs for ten years.

The University Cup was played here in March 2015 . In 2021, the women's ice hockey world championship will take place next to the Rath Eastlink Community Center in Truro at the Scotiabank Center.
