The Nova Scotia Voyageurs were a Canadian ice hockey franchise of the American Hockey League from Halifax , Nova Scotia . The venues of the Voyageurs were the Halifax Forum (1971–1978) and the Halifax Metro Center (1978–1984).
history
The Montreal Voyageurs were relocated to Halifax , Nova Scotia in 1971 , where they played as a farm team for the Montreal Canadiens under the name Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the American Hockey League . In their first AHL season, the team was able to win the Calder Cup in the 1971/72 season - as the first Canadian team ever. The following year, the Voyageurs moved into the final again, where they were defeated by the Cincinnati Swords with 1: 4 wins. In 1976 and 1977 Nova Scotia won titles two and three against the Hershey Bears and the Rochester Americans, respectively . In the following seven years, the Voyageurs failed at the latest in the second playoff round, before they were relocated to Sherbrooke , Québec , in 1984 , where they then played as Canadiens de Sherbrooke in the AHL.
The void created in Halifax by the resettlement of the voyageurs was filled by the two AHL clubs Nova Scotia Oilers (1984–1988) and Halifax Citadels (1988–1993).
