Career

During his junior years he played at the St. Catharines Fincups or Hamilton Fincups together with Al Jensen , before he transferred within the Ontario Hockey Association to the Brantford Alexanders , where Mike Bullard played. In the 1979 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in a total of 58th position by the Montreal Canadiens .

At the end of his second season with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in the American Hockey League Wamsley was appointed to the NHL squad of the Canadiens. In the following season 1981/82 he sat down against Denis Herron and Richard Sévigny and played most games as a Montréals goalkeeper. After another two seasons with the Canadiens, he was given in a large swap to the St. Louis Blues . With him three draft picks were given to the Blues, with which the Blues selected Tony Hrkac , among others . In return, the Canadiens received two draft rights, which they used to select two players with Shayne Corson and Stéphane Richer who started a great career in Montréal.

In the Blues he shared the goal with Greg Millen for four years . At the end of the 1987/88 season he was again part of a large swap. Together with Rob Ramage , the Blues gave him over to the Calgary Flames to sign their future star with Brett Hull . In Calgary he was number two behind Mike Vernon . With the Flames, Wamsley won the Stanley Cup in 1989 . He stayed with the Flames until the end of 1991.

On his third move, as twice before, he was involved in a large transaction. Together with Doug Gilmour , Jamie Macoun , Kent Manderville and Ric Nattress , he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs , which sent five players to Calgary for it. It was rarely used in Toronto. After his last season in 1992/93 he was assistant coach with the Leafs. From 2001 he worked as a goalkeeper coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets . In 2006 the Canadian returned to St. Louis as an assistant coach for the Blues.

In July 2010, he was hired by the Ottawa Senators as a goalkeeping coach.
