The Hamilton Fincups were a Canadian ice hockey team from Hamilton , Ontario . The team played in the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) from 1974 to 1978 .
history
The Hamilton Fincups were founded in 1974 and were after the Hamilton Tigers , Hamilton Tiger Cubs and the Hamilton Red Wings one of the four teams from Hamilton that were active in the Ontario Hockey Association . Already in their first season, the team managed to achieve a positive balance sheet and in 70 games to achieve 37 wins, 24 defeats and 9 draws. The future NHL player Dale McCourt , who was selected as the overall first by the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 , scored a total of 126 points in 69 games. However, he was far behind Bruce Boudreau , who scored 165 points for the Toronto Marlboros .
In the following season, the team managed to increase the number of points and collect a total of 94 points and thus put the second best team of the regular season behind the Sudbury Wolves . The team prevailed in the play-offs and won both the Emms Trophy and the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 1976 . In addition, in the same year winning the Memorial Cup was ensured with a win against the New Westminster Bruins . After the 1975/76 season, the home ground of the Fincups, the Barton Street Arena , was demolished and the franchise was then relocated to St. Catharines for one season , where it took part in the game under the name of St. Catharines Fincups . With 50 wins, 11 losses and 5 draws, the team set up the franchise's best-point season and again won the Emms Trophy. In the play-offs, the Fincups failed in the semi-finals against the London Knights . In the 1977/78 season, the team again reached the semi-finals and this time lost to the Peterborough Petes .
In 1978 the franchise was relocated to Brantford , Ontario , where it was then active in the OHL under the name Brantford Alexanders .
