Since summer 2015 he has been head coach of the Buffalo Beauts from the National Women's Hockey League together with Craig Muni .
Career
Seiling, who grew up as the youngest of three brothers in Elmira in the Canadian province of Ontario , spent his junior years between 1974 and 1977 at the Hamilton Fincups and St. Catharines Fincups in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League . With the Hamilton Fincups, the striker won both the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the subsequent Memorial Cup in the 1975/76 season . After the season he moved with the team to St. Catharines . In the summer of 1977 Seiling was in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the first round in 14th place by the Buffalo Sabers from the National Hockey League and in the WHA Amateur Draft 1977 in the sixth round in 55th position by the Winnipeg Jets from the World Hockey Association selected.
The attacker immediately decided to switch to the professional field and played with the beginning of the 1977/78 season for the Sabers in the NHL. There he spent the following eight seasons and achieved a career record with 60 scorer points in the 1979/80 season . An eye injury suffered in the following game year caused his offensive production to decline over the years, so that Buffalo separated from him in October 1986 and transferred to the Detroit Red Wings . There Seiling completed another season before he was deported to the farm team Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League for the season 1987/88 . In the summer of 1988, at the age of 29, he finally announced his retirement from active professional sport.
During his time with the Adirondack Red Wings, Seiling had already held a position as an assistant coach and gained initial experience in the coaching business. After a break of several years, he took over the head coach of the Utica Blizzard from the Colonial Hockey League for the 1994/95 season , for which he once again laced his skates in one game. Subsequently, the engagements with the Owen Sound Platers from the Ontario Hockey League in the 1995/96 season and the San Antonio Iguanas from the Central Hockey League in the 1996/97 season were marked by little success, since he was dismissed during the current season has been. He was also released from his duties with the Tulsa Oilers from the CHL during the 1998/99 season , after he had led the team into the playoffs the previous year.
As a result, Seiling paused for several years before returning to women's ice hockey in the summer of 2015 . Seiling was hired as the head coach of the Buffalo Beauts from the newly formed National Women's Hockey League , where he shared the post with Shelley Looney . For the 2016/17 season he was given a new head coach colleague, Craig Muni . He was also promoted to General Manager and led the team - after the runner-up in the previous year - to win the Isobel Cup for the first time .
