Gregory Patrick "Greg" Terrion (born May 2, 1960 in Marmora , Ontario ; † September 28, 2018 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played 596 games for the Los Angeles Kings and Toronto in the course of his playing career between 1977 and 1989 Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger .
Career
Terrion first spent his junior years between 1976 and 1977 with the Belleville Bobcats in Group B of the Ontario Hockey Association . From there, the striker moved to the 1977/78 season to the Hamilton Fincups in the higher-class Ontario Major Junior Hockey League . With the team reached the finals of the J. Ross Robertson Cup that year , in which they were subject to the Peterborough Petes . He was then active for the Brantford Alexanders in the same league for two seasons until the summer of 1980 , after the franchise had been relocated from Hamilton to Brantford . In his third and final season in the league, Terrion collected 122 scorer points , which ultimately led to the fact that he was selected in the second round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft in 33rd position by the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League .
The 20-year-old then switched to the professional field in the summer of 1980. The rookie immediately received a regular place in the Los Angeles NHL line-up and completed 73 games in which he scored 37 points. He confirmed this value in the following game year, but played a dozen fewer games than in the previous year. Nevertheless, Terrion's time in California came to an end after two seasons, as he was given in October 1982 - shortly after the start of the season - in exchange for a four-round vote in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft to the Toronto Maple Leafs . With the Kings he had not been used in the course of the season and had only played for their farm team , the New Haven Nighthawks , in the American Hockey League .
In his home province of Ontario with the Maple Leafs, Terrion was immediately back in the NHL squad and was the following six seasons until the summer of 1988 an integral part of the team. In his first four years he always scored over 30 points, although he played a more defensive role among the strikers. Only when his point yield decreased significantly from the 1986/87 season , the winger was dispensable, so that he also completed a few matches in the AHL for the Newmarket Saints in the course of the 1987/88 season . There he played his last professional season in 1988/89 before he declared his active career at the age of 29 for an end.
Terrion died in September 2018 at the age of 58 in his hometown of Marmora.
