Randall J. "Randy" Ladouceur (born June 30, 1960 in Brockville , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 970 games for the Detroit Red Wings , Hartford Whalers between 1977 and 1996 and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played in the National Hockey League as defender . Ladouceur was the seventh captain in the franchise credit history of New England / Hartford Whalers and the second of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
Career
Ladouceur began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Major Junior Hockey League , in which he was active from 1977 to 1980 for the Hamilton Fincups and Brantford Alexanders . During this period he received on November 1, 1979 as a free agent a contract with the Detroit Red Wings , without ever having been drafted .
After the defender played in his first two seasons in Detroit exclusively for their farm teams , the Kalamazoo Wings in the International Hockey League and Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League , he made his debut in the National Hockey League for in the 1982/83 season the Red Wings, where he gave four templates in 27 games. Then he had a regular place in the NHL team. On January 12, 1987 Ladouceur was given in exchange for Dave Barr to the league rivals Hartford Whalers , for which he was the following six and a half seasons on the ice. After three more years with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , whose second team captain he was between 1994 and 1996, the left shooter ended his active career in 1996.
Immediately after the end of his playing career, Ladouceur became assistant coach at his ex-club Hartford Whalers. After his relocation, the Canadian stayed in the franchise and worked as Paul Maurice's assistant coach at the Carolina Hurricanes until 2004 . The former NHL player received his only job as head coach in the 2005/06 season with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League . He then moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs , where he worked again as an assistant coach. On May 7, 2008 Ladouceur was fired by the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Cliff Fletcher , along with head coach Paul Maurice. In the 2009/10 season Ladouceur worked as an assistant coach at the Niagara IceDogs in the OHL.
In July 2010, Ladouceur was introduced as the assistant coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs under Randy Cunneyworth . A year later, he was promoted to assistant coach with the Canadiens de Montréal . There he was employed for a year before he found a job as an assistant coach with the Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL after a one-year hiatus . He worked there for two years, followed by a three-year tenure until summer 2018 as an assistant coach at the San Antonio Rampage .
