Location of the municipality of North Harz in the Harz district

Nordharz is a unitary municipality in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany. The administrative headquarters are in Veckenstedt.

The community is located in the Harz foreland and partly in the Harz Nature Park . The rivers Ecker and Ilse flow through them . The medieval desert Rimmerode is located on the territory of the municipality .

history

The municipality of North Harz was formed on January 1, 2010 from seven municipalities of the administrative community North Harz, which was dissolved as a result, and the municipality of Danstedt from the former administrative community Harzvorland-Huy . The merger took place against the background of the municipal reform in Saxony-Anhalt .

The coat of arms was designed by the local heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and approved by the district on January 28, 2011.

Blazon : “In blue a silver female figure striding to the right, her head covered with a cloth crowned, holding a silver acorn in her hands; each pile accompanied by 4 golden millstones. "

The colors of the community are white and blue.

The symbolism of the coat of arms is linked to the rivers Ecker and Ilse. While the Ilse u. a. is represented by the poet Heinrich Heine as a mythological princess through the female figure, the acorn refers to the corner. The name of the Ecker is ambiguous from its origin. Etymologically, it goes back from Germanic or Old German to the concept of a forest tree fruit (cf. Buchecker, Eichecker). The eight millstones stand on the one hand for the number of united places, on the other hand they refer to the mills (Mühlenweg) that were once found many times.

The flag is blue - white - blue (1: 4: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, longitudinal shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.

traffic

The federal highways B 6 , B 6n and B 244 run through the municipality . There is also a stop on the Heudeber-Danstedt – Bad Harzburg / Vienenburg railway line in Stapelburg . All places are connected with each other by bus lines of the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe .
