geography
The place is 10 km north of Wernigerode on the federal highway 244 . The place is predominantly agricultural .
history
In 1073 the place was mentioned as "Langala" in a document from Bishop Hermann I of Bamberg . In 1219 Hermann von Salza became a landlord in Langeln. This made the place the seat of a commander of the Teutonic Order . In addition, the Counts of Dassel were among the landowners. Nine hooves came to the Counts of Wernigerode via Adelheid von Ravensberg, Ludwig's widow . The local court of the Drübeck monastery went to her after the secularization. From the 15th century the Kommende had to submit to the Counts of Wernigerode. In 1809 Jérôme Bonaparte ordered the formal abolition of the Coming Langeln. In 1830 Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode had about 800 acres of land near the Langeln domain, which contributed to the fact that he was the largest landowner in the province of Saxony .
On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities of Langeln, Danstedt , Heudeber , Abbenrode , Schmatzfeld , Stapelburg , Veckenstedt and Wasserleben merged to form the northern Harz community.
badges and flags
The coat of arms was approved on March 30, 2009 by the Harz district.
Blazon : “In silver, surrounded by the rays of a golden aureole, growing a golden nimbly and red crowned Mother of God with black hair and silver face and hands, clad in a green robe over a red dress, on the left arm the black-haired, silver child Jesus and holding a black scepter in his right hand. "
The colors of the former municipality are - based on the tinging of the coat of arms and the flag - the colors green-white-red.
The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch . It takes up the motif of the altarpiece of the village church.
The flag is striped green-white-red (1: 1: 1) (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the coat of arms.
