Johann Friedrich Schmid (theologian)

Johann Friedrich Balthasar Schmid (born January 18 / June 18, 1729 in Langeln , † March 7, 1811 in Wernigerode ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Schmid was the son of the organist and school teacher Balthasar Achatz Schmid in Langeln in the county of Wernigerode, which was under Prussian sovereignty . He attended the Lyceum in Wernigerode and studied Protestant theology at the University of Halle from 1749 to 1753 . Then he went to the teachers' seminar , according to other information to the seminary in Wernigerode and in 1755 became tutor of the later Count Christian Friedrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode . He was ordained on December 20, 1759. He then became court chaplain at Wernigerode Castle and in 1770 became court preacher Ilsenburg . In 1772 the post of consistorial councilor at the Evangelical Consistory in Wernigerode and in 1781 the function of court preacher in Wernigerode was added. In 1786, his former student, Count Christian Friedrich, appointed Johann Friedrich Schmid superintendent of the County of Wernigerode.

Since the ruling Counts of Stolberg-Wernigerode also had properties in the Hohnstein Forest and in the market town of Schwarza in today's Thuringia in the former county of Henneberg , Johann Friedrich Schmid was also employed there as an inspector and was among other things. a. responsible for looking after the local pastors in Rothesütte , Sophienhof and Schwarza.

Schmid was married twice. His first marriage to Susanne Charlotte, born Rüdiger, on September 24, 1761, daughter of the wealthy Countess-Stolberg-Wernigeröd government councilor August David Rüdiger, had the following children:
