Count Christian Friedrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (born January 8, 1746 at Wernigerode Castle ; † May 26, 1824 in Peterswaldau ) followed his father as regent of the county of Wernigerode in 1778 .

Life

Count Christian Friedrich was the only son of Count Heinrich Ernst zu Stolberg-Wernigerode and Princess Anna of Anhalt-Köthen. He comes from the Counts of Stolberg .

During his studies in Halle (Saale) from 1764 to 1767 he was accepted as a Freemason in the lodge to the three swords , in the summer of 1767 he received the fourth and later the fifth degree in the Leipzig lodge.

Until 1796, Count Christian Friedrich was cathedral dean of Halberstadt and provost of Walbeck , knight of the Royal Prussian Red Order ( 1797) and the Order of the Black Eagle (1803) as well as the Order of St. John . The knighthood to the Johanniter took place in 1790 by Prince August Ferdinand of Prussia .

The count was u. a. friends with the poet Anna Louisa Karsch and the poet Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim . He was also a member of the Halberstadt Literary Society, which existed from 1785 to 1810 .

On June 8, 1765, his mother's uncle, Count Johann Erdmann von Promnitz , gave him the lordships of Peterswaldau , Jannowitz and Kreppelhof in Silesia . Through a foundation of December 18, 1815, he left Peterswaldau to his second oldest son, Count Ferdinand, as a special entail and majorate , Jannowitz to his third oldest son, Count Konstantin, and Kreppelhof to his youngest son, Count Anton . They founded the Silesian branches of the Stolberg-Wernigerode family, who lived there until they were expelled in 1945. The eldest son Henrich became the owner of the county of Wernigerode.
