Wilhelm Herse

Wilhelm Herse (born April 30, 1879 in Posen , † October 25, 1965 in Wolfsburg ) was a German librarian and archivist .

Wilhelm Herse was the son of the Lord Mayor of Poznan Jaroslaw Herse . After graduating from high school, he studied German and history in Berlin. In 1919 he successfully applied for the post of princely archivist and librarian of the Prince zu Stolberg-Wernigerode Library in Wernigerode, which had previously been occupied by Eduard Jacobs . In 1927 he was appointed director of the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel , which he held until 1948. In Wolfenbüttel he was a member of the Freemason Lodge "Wilhelm zu den drei Säulen". Since 1943 he was a full member of the Braunschweig Scientific Society .
