Troy Ayne Loney (born September 21, 1963 in Bow Island , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 691 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , New York Islanders and New York between 1980 and 1995 York Rangers has played in the National Hockey League in the position of left winger . His biggest career successes celebrated Loney, who in the 1993/94 season , the first captain of the franchise credit history of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, was in the employ of the Pittsburgh Penguins winning the Stanley Cup in the years 1991 and 1992 .
His son Ty Loney is also a professional ice hockey player .
Career
Troy Loney began his career as a hockey player with the Lethbridge Broncos , for which he was active from 1980 to 1983 in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League and with whom he won the President's Cup in the 1982/83 season .
In the following season, the attacker made his debut for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League , which had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 1982 in the third round as a total of 52 players. In his rookie year , the left-shot was on the ice a total of 13 times. After commuting between the Penguins and their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Baltimore Skipjacks , he had a regular place in the NHL team from the 1987/88 season , with which he won the prestigious Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992 .
In the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft , Loney was selected by the newly formed Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , whose first team captain he became. In this position, the Canadian scored a total of 19 points scorer in 62 games in the 1993/94 season , including 13 goals. After only one year he left the Californians again and played in the 1994/95 season, which was shortened due to the lockout , only 31 times for the two city rivals New York Islanders and New York Rangers , whereupon he ended his active career.
