The 1993 NHL Expansion Draft was hosted on June 24, 1993 by the National Hockey League in Quebec City , Canada . The draft had become necessary because the league was expanded by two franchises before the 1993/94 season with the Florida Panthers and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the roster of the two teams had to be filled with players.

regulate

Each of the 24 NHL teams in 1993 had the right to ban one goalkeeper , five defenders and nine strikers from their squad so that they were not available in the expansion draft. In addition, all players who had only been professional players for a year or two were also excluded from the draft.

Forty-eight players, two from each team, were selected during the draft, with either a goalkeeper or defender drawn from an existing team. As a result, six teams lost a goalkeeper and a striker, 16 teams lost a defender and a striker and two franchises lost two strikers, as the Panthers and Mighty Ducks each had to draft three goalkeepers, eight defenders and 13 strikers for their squad.
