Jarrod Janis Skalde (born February 26, 1971 in Niagara Falls , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach. During his career he played for the New Jersey Devils , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Calgary Flames , San Jose Sharks , Dallas Stars , Chicago Blackhawks , Atlanta Thrashers and Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League . In the 2014-15 season he was the head coach of the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League .

Career

After a successful four-year youth career with the Oshawa Generals and Belleville Bulls from the Ontario Hockey League from 1987 to 1991, which was crowned by winning the Memorial Cup , the championship of the Canadian Hockey League , Skalde moved after the OHL season in 1990 / 91 in the professional camp to the New Jersey Devils , who had selected him in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in the second round in 26th place.

The striker was just as unable to assert himself in the NHL regular squad with the Devils as in his later stations in Anaheim, Calgary, San Jose, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta and Philadelphia, but mostly had to deal with assignments in the farm teams that the high-class minor Leagues , the American Hockey League and International Hockey League , are content. To most of his 115 NHL appearances he came during the 1997/98 season , when he came for the San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks to a total of 30 missions, including 22 for San Jose, and thereby collected eleven points, ten of them near San Jose.

For the 2002/03 season , Skalde turned to Europe for the first time and played for HC Lausanne in the NLA. But he returned to North America after only 23 games. He had his second engagement in Europe in the 2005/06 season when he played in Sweden for Leksands IF .

After he had ended his active career at the end of the 2007/08 season with the Bloomington Prairie Thunders in the International Hockey League , he took over the management of the team for the following season. In the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons Bloomington Prairie Thunder missed the play-offs. In August 2010, he was introduced as the head coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones .

For the 2013/14 season, Skalde accepted an offer from the Norfolk Admirals from the American Hockey League to act as assistant coach. After head coach Trent Yawney was brought in as assistant coach at the Anaheim Ducks , Skalde took over his position on an interim basis in June 2014. He was later taken on permanently as head coach, but stayed in this position only until the end of the season, as the team then moved to San Diego and Dallas Eakins was introduced as the new head coach.
