Crown Prosecution Service

The Crown Prosecution Service ( German : " law enforcement services of the Crown "; CPS) is a law enforcement agency for England and Wales . It is organized in 42 local districts, each district having its own Chief Crown Prosecutor . In total, the authority employs almost 7,000 people, including almost 3,000 public prosecutors .

The Crown Prosecution Service conducts law enforcement for proceedings in the Magistrates' Court and Crown Court .

The tasks of the CPS include the following:

  • ongoing review of each case
  • Revelation matters
  • Giving early advice and information to the police
  • Informing crime victims of the progress of each case
  • Decision on charges or other measures such as warning, reprimand, etc.
