The Crown Court is the UK's criminal court and is one of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, alongside the High Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal . Crown Courts are located in 91 different cities in England and Wales. Serious crimes such as murder, manslaughter and robbery are only tried in the Crown Court, which is the higher court for criminal cases. The Crown Court is hierarchically subordinate to the High Court of Justice and its departments.

Prosecution for proceedings before the Crown Court is conducted by the Crown Prosecution Service .
