David A. Williams (born August 25, 1967 in Plainfield , New Jersey ) is a retired American ice hockey player . During his career he played for the San Jose Sharks and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the National Hockey League .

Career

Williams first played from 1981 to 1985 in high school before he studied at Dartmouth College from 1985 to 1989 and at the same time ran up for the university team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . After he had already been selected by the New Jersey Devils in the twelfth round in the twelfth round in the twelfth round in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft at the end of high school , he switched to the professional camp for the 1990/91 season.

Since the Devils did not manage to get their draft pick to sign the contract, the defender spent the season first in the East Coast Hockey League with the Knoxville Cherokees and in the International Hockey League with the Muskegon Lumberjacks . In the summer of 1991, the newly founded San Jose Sharks signed the free agent , who had previously participated with the US national team in the 1991 Ice Hockey World Championship . In addition to some games for the Kansas City Blades in the IHL, Williams was part of the Sharks' NHL squad in the 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons and again took part in the 1992 World Cup. Through the NHL Expansion Draft in 1993 , Williams moved to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , where he played in the farm team in the IHL as well as in the NHL team in the following two years . After his contract expired, he signed a one-year contract with the Hartford Whalers as a free agent in August 1995 , but they only used him in the IHL with the Detroit Vipers . The American went to the St. Louis Blues the following summer . There he came in two seasons only to appearances in the International and American Hockey League . After the 1997/98 season, he ended his career.
