Milan Tichý (* 22. September 1969 in Pilsen , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech hockey player and current - scout , who during his playing career from 1987 to 1996, among other 23 games for the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders in the National Hockey League on contested the position of defender . Since the summer of 1999 he has been employed as a scout for the European player market for the Columbus Blue Jackets from the NHL.
Career
Tichý came from the offspring of TJ Škoda Plzeň , the club in his hometown. He remained loyal to this until 1989 and made his debut there in the Czechoslovak first division . In the summer of 1989 he moved within the league to ASVŠ Dukla Trenčín , where he played another two years.
In the summer of 1991, the defender moved to North America after the fall of the Iron Curtain . There he took the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League under contract, which had selected him in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round in 153rd position. The Blackhawks first used the Czech in the International Hockey League at the Indianapolis Ice , before he made his NHL debut in the 1992/93 season and made a total of 13 missions there. But he spent most of the season again in the IHL. Through the NHL expansion draft in 1993 he arrived in June 1993 established the new franchise of the Florida Panthers , but even before the start of the 1993/94 season parted from him and by transfer to the Winnipeg Jets sent. In return, Brent Severyn switched to the Panthers.
In the organization of the Winnipeg Jets, Tichý played exclusively for the Moncton Hawks in the American Hockey League . After the season, the Jets did not extend the contract, making the defender as a free agent to the New York Islanders . He did not succeed there either and spent the two seasons between 1994 and 1996 mainly in the IHL, where he won the Turner Cup with the Denver Grizzlies in the spring of 1995 . Towards the end of the 1995/96 season, which was marked by injuries, Tichý returned to the Czech Republic and completed some games for the AC ZPS Zlín . In the summer of 1996 he ended his career at the age of 26 due to the back injury he had suffered in the past season.
In the summer of 1998, Tichý joined the organization of the Nashville Predators from the NHL. There he worked as a scout for the European player market for a year . He has held this position at Columbus Blue Jackets since the summer of 1999 .
International
Tichý represented the Czechoslovak U20 national team at the Junior World Championships in 1988 and 1989 . After a fourth place in 1988, he won the bronze medal the following year and was also selected as one of two defenders in the All-Star team.
For the men's selection he was on the ice in a total of 17 games between 1989 and 1991, but did not take part in any high-level international tournament.
