The season 1987/88 of the 1st league was the 45th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . In the playoff final, the VSŽ Košice prevailed with 3-1 wins against Sparta ČKD Prague . For the team it was their second Czechoslovak championship title . Zetor Brno rose as the bottom of the table in the relegation round in the second division, while the TJ Vítovice managed the direct promotion after a year of second division.

mode

As in the previous season, the league was played with twelve teams. The total number of games per team in the main round was 34 games. Then the eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs and played the champions there. The other four teams competed against each other in four games in a relegation round. The bottom of the table was relegated directly to the respective national championship.

1st league qualification

The winners of the Czech and Slovak 2nd division groups competed against each other in a best-of-five series for promotion to the 1st division for the following season. The Czech representative TJ Vítkovice prevailed.
