The 1948/49 season of the 1st division was the sixth regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . With seven wins and a total of 14 points, the LTC Prague clearly prevailed and thus also won the sixth edition of the 1st division. For the capital city, it was their eleventh Czechoslovak championship title .

In contrast to the previous season, the league was no longer played in groups, but in a common main round of all teams. With the relegation of the last two per group, the total number of teams decreased to eight. Since each team played against each group opponent once, the total number of games per team in the main round was seven games, two more than in the previous year. Master was the first of the main round, the breakup of the two groups eliminated the decider. The last two teams were relegated.

Before the 1948/49 season, the ice hockey team of the ATK Prague army sports club was included in the first division without any athletic qualifications. Therefore, the HC Stadion Podolí was excluded from the league and dissolved.

The top scorer in the league was player- coach Vladimír Zábrodský from LTC Prague, who scored 19 goals in his team's seven games.

1st league qualification

The teams of ZSJ GZ Královo Pole , ZSJ Vítkovické železárny , Meteor České Budějovice and ZSJ Slavia Pardubice played in a simple round for admission to the first division for the following season. The first two prevailed with four points each, ahead of the tied Meteor and the pointless Pardubice.
