The 1976/77 season of the 1st division was the 34th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . SONP Kladno prevailed with 70 points . For the team it was the fourth Czechoslovak championship title in a row.

mode

As in the previous season, the league was played with twelve teams. Since each team played two home and two away games against each group opponent, the total number of games per team was 44 games. Champion became the winner of the main round. The bottom of the table was relegated directly to the respective national championship.

1st league qualification

The winners of the Czech and Slovak 2nd division groups competed against each other in a best-of-seven series for promotion to the 1st division for the following season. The Slovak representative Dukla Trenčín prevailed.
