The 1965/66 season of the 1st division was the 23rd regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . ZKL Brno prevailed with 56 points . For the team it was their eleventh Czechoslovak championship title .

mode

In contrast to the previous season, the number of participants was reduced by two to ten teams that played the entire season in a common main round. Each team played four times against each other team, so the total number of games per team was 36 games. Champion became the winner of the main round. The bottom of the table rose directly to the 2nd division.

1st league qualification

The winners of the four second division groups , VTŽ Chomutov , Motorlet Prague , VŽKG Ostrava and Dukla Trenčín played in a round trip for admission to the first division for the following season. VŽKG Ostrava prevailed with eleven points and rose to the first division.
