The 1973/74 season of the first division was the 31st regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . The army sports club Dukla Jihlava prevailed with 69 points . For the team it was their seventh Czechoslovak championship title .

mode

In contrast to the previous season, the league was expanded by two participants to twelve teams. Since each team played two home and two away games against each group opponent, the total number of games per team was 44 games. Champion became the winner of the main round. The bottom of the table was relegated directly to the respective national championship. The playoffs held in the previous year were abolished.

1st league qualification

The winners of the Czech and Slovak 2nd division groups competed against each other in a best-of-seven series for promotion to the 1st division for the following season. The Czech representative TJ Gottwaldov clearly prevailed.
