Jaroslav Holík

Jaroslav Holík (born August 3, 1942 in Německý Brod ; † April 17, 2015 in Jihlava ) was a Czechoslovak national ice hockey player who played for Dukla Jihlava over 600 games in the 1st division of Czechoslovakia and over 140 games in the jersey of the Czechoslovak national team .

Career

Jaroslav Holík began his career in 1956 in his hometown with Jiskra Havlíčkův Brod . In 1961 he moved to the army club ASD Dukla Jihlava for his military service , to which he remained loyal until 1979 and where he ended his career. With Jihlava he won a total of seven league titles (1967-72 and 1974) and scored 267 goals in 602 league games. He also took part in the Spengler Cup several times with Jihlava and won it in 1966, 1967, 1969, 1979 and 1983.

From 1964 on he took part in international championships with the national ice hockey team of Czechoslovakia and scored one of the legendary goals in ice hockey history at the 1972 ice hockey world championship : His goal to make it 3-2 against the Soviet Union , which had previously been undefeated for nine years and which had dominated this sport for a long time, gave his team the gold medal. He also won two silver and three bronze medals in other world championships. Another highlight of his career was participating in the 1972 Winter Olympics , where the Czechoslovak national ice hockey team won the bronze medal. In 142 international matches, Holík scored 75 goals for Czechoslovakia.

After retiring as a player, Holík worked as a coach and led the Czech U20 national team to two world championship titles ( 2000 and 2001 ).

Jaroslav Holík comes from a family of ice hockey. Next to him, his son Bobby Holík and his brother Jiří Holík successfully played ice hockey. His daughter Andrea Holíková played tennis.
