The association was founded in 1928 and was active exclusively on a regional level until the 1990s. The club's home games have been played in the Kotlina ice rink , which can accommodate up to 4,000 spectators , since it was completed. In 1991 the first team rose to the third division of Czechoslovakia. Two years later, the club achieved promotion to the first division, in which it lasted until 1999. It was not until 2006 that the HC Rebel became runner-up in the 2nd division and was allowed to climb back into the 1st division.

In 2015 the club was relegated from the 1st to the 2nd division and renamed itself BK Havlíčkův Brod .
