Career

Sobotka in the dress of the Boston Bruins

Vladimír Sobotka began his career as an ice hockey player in his Czech homeland with HC Slavia Prague , for whom he played for four years from 2003 to 2007. During the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Boston Bruins as the 106th player. The attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League on November 24, 2007 against the New York Islanders . He scored his first NHL goal on February 13, 2008 against the Pittsburgh Penguins . In his first NHL season, Sobotka came to 48 missions with seven scorer points, including one goal. He was not only in the Boston squad, but also plays regularly for their farm team , the Providence Bruins , from the American Hockey League (AHL).

In the summer of 2010 Sobotka was transferred to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for David Warsofsky . His contract was not renewed after the 2013/14 season, so he joined the HK Awangard Omsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) and signed a three-year contract there. The Czech had not been able to come to an agreement with the Blues on salary expectations, so a court of arbitration (salary arbitration) called on because of his status as a restricted free agent proposed a solution to which both parties agreed: Sobotka's NHL rights remain in St. Louis and the The attacker receives a one-year contract with a salary of 2.725 million US dollars, which only comes into force if the Czech returns to the league.

As a result, Sobotka fulfilled his contract with HK Awangard Omsk and was called up to the KHL All-Star Game twice in his three KHL years . In April 2017, the attacker's return to St. Louis was finally announced, as was a new three-year contract with the Blues that came into effect at the start of the 2017/18 season and is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 3.5 million . However, Sobotka was already given to the Buffalo Sabers in July 2018, including the Thompson , Patrik Berglund days , a first-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2019 and a second-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2021 . In return, Ryan O'Reilly moved to St. Louis.
